Tea Viburnum
Viburnum segtigerum or Tea Viburnum is so named because the Chinese monks were known to make tea from the leaves of this plant.
This viburnum is an upward arching plant best known for its heavy fruit display. Easy to grow the Tea viburnum is accepting of many different light conditions and soil type types. Only prune lightly as needed as heavy pruning can affect berry set.
Small white flowers in mid to late spring are followed by heavy bright red fruit in the fall. Long narrow lightly toothed blue green foliage turns to purple in Fall.
Plants can become bare in maturity and are best used at the back of a border with other low growing shrubs to cover the knees such as Annabelle hydrangeas, Rhus aromatica Gro Lo and Fothergillia gardenii.
